Alice Gillen, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Alice began their career as a Cashier and Sales Assistant at Brennan's Pharmacy before transitioning into research roles. At Trinity College Dublin, Alice worked as a Research Assistant in the Magnetism and Spintronics group, conducting research on electrochemical production of hydrogen bubbles and microbubble nucleation. Alice then moved on to the Paul Scherrer Institut PSI, where they served as a Research Assistant. Alice later joined J.P. Morgan as a Credit Risk Analyst, before pursuing their PhD at EPFL. During their time at EPFL, Alice worked as a Researcher and PhD Student in the LNB group, focusing on engineering optical biosensors for neurochemical sensing applications. Alice also served as an Assistant Trainer in Scientific Writing for Chemistry PhD students. Additionally, Alice was elected as the PhD representative for the school of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and participated in the Academia Industry Training Program. After completing their PhD, Alice conducted postdoctoral research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Most recently, they held positions at Nano Precision Medical and Vivani Medical, serving as an R&D Manager and Associate Director of Process Development, respectively.

From 2011 to 2015, Alice pursued their Honours Degree (BA Mod) in Nanoscience, Physics & Chemistry of Advanced Materials at Trinity College, Dublin.
