Ian Barry has over 30 years of experience in the rail industry. Ian began their career in 1990 as a Signalling Designer at British Rail, where they worked for three years. Ian then joined NIMCO as a Signalling Designer and stayed with the company for three years. In 1996, Ian joined Jarvis Rail as a Signalling Principles Designer and worked there for eight years. In 2004, they moved to Network Rail and held various roles, including Signalling Principles Designer, Signalling Design Manager, Signalling Design Group Manager, and Design Team Manager. In 2020, Ian joined VolkerRail Ltd as the Head of Design - Signalling.

Ian Barry attended St Wilfrid's Roman Catholic High School in North Featherstone from 1980 to 1988, where they studied GCE's and A'Levels. Afterward, they enrolled at Whitwood Technical College in Castleford from 1990 to 1993, where they pursued a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Moving forward, in 2009 to 2010, Ian Barry attended the University of Warwick and obtained a PGDip in Business Leadership. Lastly, they completed the Rail Industry Leaders Programme at Network Rail from 2016 to 2017, where they focused on Senior Leadership.
