Ron Brackett began their work experience as a copy editor at the Greenville (S.C.) News in 1985 before moving on to a regional/metro copy desk role at the St. Petersburg Times. At the St. Petersburg Times, they took on various supervisory roles and played a part in training new hires and supervising the news desk. Ron later became a community news editor, overseeing a local news section and serving as a city editor for the Tampa bureau. In 1994, they became a news editor at the St. Petersburg Times before transitioning to the role of executive news editor, where they shaped story selection and presentation on the front page. From there, Brackett became the newsart director, responsible for graphics and illustrations, before taking on the position of senior editor/ days, working on the creation of a team focused on posting breaking news online. In 2009, they joined the Tampa Bay Times, taking on roles such as senior editor/ nights and copy desk, assistant managing editor/editing and design, and deputy managing editor/tampabay.com & presentation. Their most recent work includes being a writer for The Weather Channel website and working as a freelance editor and writer.
Ron Brackett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of South Carolina, where they attended from 1981 to 1985.
