Ellen Patterson is Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Wells Fargo & Company, with responsibility for the company’s legal affairs and oversight of the Legal Department. She serves on the Wells Fargo Operating Committee and is based in New York City.

Ellen joined Wells Fargo as General Counsel in March 2020. She joined the Company from TD Bank Group, where she served as Group Head and General Counsel, responsible for leading the legal, compliance, anti-money laundering, global security & investigations, fraud risk management, corporate secretary, and ombudsman departments. In that role, Ellen was a member of TD’s global operating committee. Previously, Ellen held similar positions with TD’s U.S. operations. She also served as chair of TD’s Women in Leadership program. Prior to joining TD, Ellen was a partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where her practice focused on advising financial institutions on mergers & acquisitions, capital markets, and corporate governance matters.

Ellen holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and a J.D. from Columbia University. She has been recognized as one of 25 "Women to Watch" by American Banker in each of the past four years. Ellen is a member of the board of directors of The United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.
