Whitman Independent Advisors was established in 2000 (4 years before financial planning license was introduced in Malaysia) by Yap Ming Hui with a bold vision to revolutionise the financial services industry by offering fee-charging financial planning services—an idea that was relatively unfamiliar at the time.

During its early years, Whitman primarily served high net worth clients, including influential PLC owners. However, a serendipitous encounter with a single mother in need of impartial financial guidance proved to be a transformative moment. This encounter served as a powerful catalyst for Whitman to expand its services and venture into the middle-class market. Yap saw an opportunity to shape a future where vast majority of Malaysians, guided by fee-charging financial planners, can avoid costly financial mistakes, capitalise on opportunities to optimise their hard-earned assets, and ultimately increase their likelihood of achieving financial freedom.
           
Over the years, Yap has played an instrumental role in educating thousands of Malaysians about the importance of engaging a financial planner to optimise their financial wealth.
