Joseph Zumwald attended Meadowdale High School from 1973 to 1977, where they pursued a college preparatory curriculum. Joseph then enrolled at Wright State University from 1977 to 1979, focusing on geography and environmental sciences, although they did not obtain a degree. Subsequently, from 1979 to 1981, Joseph attended Miami University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography.
