Peter Bailis

Chief Technology Officer at Workday

Peter Bailis is chief technology officer at Workday. In this role, he is responsible for the strategy and delivery of technology and architecture across the entire suite of Workday products and AI agents, including Workday Illuminate™, Workday Agent System of Record, and the overall Workday user experience and design.

Prior to joining Workday, Peter was vice president of engineering at Google Cloud, where he led AI for data initiatives, driving the development of generative AI services including Conversational Analytics, NL2SQL, and RAG for structured data. He also oversaw engineering for Google Cloud BI and Looker. He was previously the founder and CEO of Sisu Data, a decision intelligence engine to accelerate data analysis. Additionally, Peter served as an assistant professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, where his research focused on data-intensive systems and he co-led the Stanford DAWN project.

Peter holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and an A.B. in Computer Science from Harvard College.
