XL Batteries
Paul Evans is the Chief Science Officer at XL Batteries, where the focus is on grid-scale energy solutions, a position held since October 2019. Prior to this role, Paul Evans worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Universidad Complutense de Madrid under Nazario Martín, specializing in the synthesis of curved molecular nanographenes from January 2016 to July 2019. Paul Evans completed a PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oregon from 2014 to 2015, where the research involved the synthesis of small, chiral, and photoswitchable carbon nanohoops. Earlier experience includes serving as an Instructor at The Community Spoke, a not-for-profit cycling co-op, and obtaining a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from Boston University (2009-2014). Additional roles included a Chemist and Synthesis Specialist at Promerus LLC, focusing on photoresist polymer synthesis, and prepress work at Greyden Press, LLC. Education culminated in a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a focus on Supramolecular Chemistry and Organic Synthesis from The College of Wooster (2004-2008).
XL Batteries
Spun out of Columbia University in 2019, XL Batteries is on a mission to facilitate the energy transition by providing a solution to the challenge of long-duration energy storage. Enabled by its proprietary chemistry, XL Batteries is developing an inexpensive, safe, stable, long-lived and scalable solution to unlock the potential of renewables for a sustainable future.
