The Yacht Club was established in 1933 by a group of prominent Athenians under the name of YACHT CLUB OF ATHENS.

The aims of the Club are the promotion of sailing in Greece, the training and recreation of its members in yachting activities and the promotion of nautical tourism.

The Club was renamed in 1936 as YACHT CLUB OF GREECE and between 1940 and 1973 assumed the title of ROYAL YACHT CLUB OF GREECE as King George II and subsequently King Paul and King Constantine graciously accepted the title of the " Admiral of the Club " being very keen yachtsmen themselves. Nowadays the club is under the auspices of the President of the Republic. 

Its premises lie in Piraeus Peninsula in the historical military Port of Ancient Athens called MOUNICHIA. This picturesque area even in our times retains its ancient name. The contemporary colloquial name is MICROLIMANO which means " the small port".

The main club house is situated on the top of a hill at the southwest end of the port which forms a small peninsula with a unique view of the Phaleron Bay, the Saronic Gulf and the islands of Salamis, Aegina and Poros as well as the city of Athens with its surrounding mountains. The slopes of the hill are beautifully landscaped with gardens.
The Yacht Club has also a club adjacent to the Port of MICROLIMANO which is especially situated and set up for sailors to use in leisure clothing and it is especially created to serve participants in all types of sailing events.

The Club has 1550 members which include Regular Members, Diplomatic Members, Naval Associates and Junior Members. There is also a provision for Corresponding Members.
