Conor O'Brien is a Mechanical Design Engineer at YASA, specializing in e-motors for hybrid and electric vehicles since August 2021. Previously, Conor served as a Project Design Engineer at SST Technology from September 2019 to August 2021 and held the position of Powertrain Lead at Team Hare, where the team achieved 5th place and the Most Improved Team award at the British Formula Student Event in 2019. Conor's experience also includes a Machine Shop Placement Student role at Schaeffler during a pivotal software transition, as well as winning the Honeypot Design Challenge 2016 at SPX FLOW, where innovative manufacturing solutions for pump impellers were proposed. Conor began a professional career as a Workshop Technician at Motoworks Cambridge, performing various motorcycle workshop tasks. Academically, Conor holds a Master of Engineering in Automotive and Motorsport Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in the same field from the University of Huddersfield, complemented by a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Vehicle Technology from Cambridge Regional College.

YASA was founded on the principle that small, light electric motors would play a growing role in meeting both the strict emissions targets being set globally in a wide range of industries and the requirement for greater efficiency through electrification.The Company was incorporated in 2009 based on a unique patented motor technology invented bythe Company’s founder and CTO Dr Tim Woolmer whilst studying for his DPhil at Oxford University. The unique YASA motor technology is ideal for a range of mobile applications such as hydraulics replacement, power generation, traction and propulsion and hybridisation. YASA Motors manufactures a range of standard electric motors and generators based on our unique motor topology at our factory and Company Headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The YASA-750, YASA-250 and YASA-400 products have been designed to be integrated into customers’ products in a range of markets and industries with minimal application engineering. In addition to our standard products, YASA has a design and development team dedicated to making bespoke motors for customers for medium-high volume applications.
