Dan Barwell is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in the composite materials and motorsport sectors. Currently serving as the Lead Test and Validation Engineer at YASA since April 2023, Barwell previously held various leadership roles at Arrival from March 2018 to April 2023, including Engineering Manager and Lead R&D Engineer in Composites. Earlier positions include Project Engineer and Development Engineer at Lentus Composites, where responsibilities encompassed high-value composite component design and development for multiple industries, and Design/Production Engineer at Helix Autosport, focusing on bespoke drivetrain components and CNC milling processes. Barwell's career began as a Damper Technician at BG Motorsport, contributing to projects in LMP and F1 racing. Education includes NVQ Level 3 in Information Technology from Warwickshire College and further training at Silverstone College for Motorsport.

YASA was founded on the principle that small, light electric motors would play a growing role in meeting both the strict emissions targets being set globally in a wide range of industries and the requirement for greater efficiency through electrification.The Company was incorporated in 2009 based on a unique patented motor technology invented bythe Company’s founder and CTO Dr Tim Woolmer whilst studying for his DPhil at Oxford University. The unique YASA motor technology is ideal for a range of mobile applications such as hydraulics replacement, power generation, traction and propulsion and hybridisation. YASA Motors manufactures a range of standard electric motors and generators based on our unique motor topology at our factory and Company Headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The YASA-750, YASA-250 and YASA-400 products have been designed to be integrated into customers’ products in a range of markets and industries with minimal application engineering. In addition to our standard products, YASA has a design and development team dedicated to making bespoke motors for customers for medium-high volume applications.
