Jonathan Aspinall is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in the automotive sector. Currently serving as a Senior Lead Development Engineer at YASA since January 2022, Jonathan previously held significant roles at Rheinmetall from December 2012 to January 2022, including Head of Testing and Simulation for Valvetrain, where leadership was provided to a team of engineers and analysts. Earlier in the career, Jonathan worked at Mechadyne International as a Project Engineer, managing complex projects related to variable valve systems and collaborating within pan-European engineering teams. Jonathan's background also includes a role as a Contract Design Engineer at Corac Group plc, focusing on mechanical design in extreme conditions. Jonathan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering from Loughborough University, earned in 2002.

YASA was founded on the principle that small, light electric motors would play a growing role in meeting both the strict emissions targets being set globally in a wide range of industries and the requirement for greater efficiency through electrification.The Company was incorporated in 2009 based on a unique patented motor technology invented bythe Company’s founder and CTO Dr Tim Woolmer whilst studying for his DPhil at Oxford University. The unique YASA motor technology is ideal for a range of mobile applications such as hydraulics replacement, power generation, traction and propulsion and hybridisation. YASA Motors manufactures a range of standard electric motors and generators based on our unique motor topology at our factory and Company Headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The YASA-750, YASA-250 and YASA-400 products have been designed to be integrated into customers’ products in a range of markets and industries with minimal application engineering. In addition to our standard products, YASA has a design and development team dedicated to making bespoke motors for customers for medium-high volume applications.
