The Yawkey Foundation is a charitable, grant-making organization that concentrates its efforts on providing support to nonprofit organizations that assist members in underserved communities. Established in 1977 by long-time Boston Red Sox owner and outdoorsman Tom Yawkey, and nurtured by his wife Jean Yawkey, the Yawkey Foundation continues on the Yawkeys’ legacy of quietly providing critical support to areas of giving that they were passionate about in their lifetimes. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $530 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, serving the people of Boston, Massachusetts and Georgetown, South Carolina. Their major areas of giving include health care, education, human services, youth and amateur athletics, arts and culture, and wildlife conservation. Through the generosity of the Yawkey Foundation and its commitment to uphold the philanthropic values of Jean and Tom Yawkey, several nonprofit organizations have been supported over the decades, including the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, Boston University, and many more.
