Halil Demir is an experienced board member and executive leader with a significant history of contributing to various organizations. Demir serves on the boards of the Afghan Culture Center, Rohingya Culture Center, American Muslim Humanitarian Forum, Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), and Khalil Center. As the Executive Director of the Zakat Foundation of America since 2002, Demir has transformed the organization from one employee and no funds to an operation with $20 million in growth by 2021, serving in 50 countries globally. Additionally, Demir is the founder and board member of the Zakat Foundation Institute and has held board positions with The Council of Islamic Organization of Greater Chicago and Arise Chicago. Educational qualifications include ongoing doctoral studies at the University of Vienna, an Executive Leadership Certificate from Harvard University, a Master's in Nonprofit Management from North Park University, a Master's in Arts in History from Chicago State University, and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Basel.
