Laura Romero, LCSW

Laura Romero, LCSW has a diverse background in social work, with experience in various healthcare settings. Laura is currently working as an Integrated Behavioral Health Provider at Zufall Health Center. In this role, they offer trauma-informed primary care behavioral health services through brief therapy, focusing on measurable goals and outcomes.

Prior to this, Laura worked as a Pediatric Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Social Worker at The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Laura managed a caseload of patients, including children, adolescents, young adults, pregnant individuals, and newborns of women living with HIV. Their responsibilities included conducting psychosocial assessments and developing patient-centered treatment plans.

Laura also has experience as a Renal Social Worker at Fresenius Medical Care North America, where they worked with patients in an in-center dialysis clinic. Laura provided counseling using Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Motivational Interviewing techniques, focusing on depression, anxiety, hopelessness, and treatment adherence.

Additionally, Laura served as a Transplant Services MSW Intern at Vidant Medical Center, where they conducted biopsychosocial assessments to determine patient eligibility for kidney transplant. Laura also provided psychoeducation to patients and their support systems and presented cases during patient selection committee meetings.

Prior to their healthcare roles, Laura worked as a Public Health Program Consultant II at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. In this role, they conducted compliance investigations for the federal Women, Infants, and Children's (WIC) program, prepared comprehensive reports, and testified in administrative hearings.

Laura also has experience as an Intensive In-Home Associate Professional at Dixon Social Interactive Services, where they utilized their bilingual skills to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking clients and provided coaching and skills training to youth and their families.

Laura began their social work career as a Family Engagement Counselor/BSW Intern at Pitt County Schools. In this role, they engaged with the Hispanic/Latino community, compiled community resources, and planned the school's first Latino Family Night.

Laura Romero, LCSW holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from East Carolina University. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Social Work from the same university. In addition to their formal education, Laura has obtained various certifications. Laura achieved the title of Licensed Clinical Social Worker from both the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board in December 2019 and the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs - Social Work Examiners in January 2021. Furthermore, Laura also obtained the Reiki Masters certification from Awaken and Align in October 2021.
