Thomas Jordan has substantial international financial market and monetary policy experience. In 2012, he was elected chairman of the governing board of the Swiss National Bank (SNB), a position he held until September 2024. He began his career at the SNB in 1997 as economic adviser and head of economic research. In 2004 the Swiss Federal Council appointed him as alternate member of the SNB’s governing board and chief investment officer, before appointing him as member of the SNB’s governing board in 2007. In 2010 he was appointed vice-chairman of the governing board, and two years later he was elected chairman. As SNB chairman, he also served as governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Switzerland and as a member of the board of directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He represented Switzerland in the plenary and steering committee of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and was chair of the FSB’s standing committee on budget and resources. He also served as chairman of the BIS banking and risk management committee and as a member of the BIS administrative committee. In 2010, Mr. Jordan was elected chairman of the foundation board of the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies (ICMB) in Geneva and chairman of the G10 central bank counterfeit deterrence group. He resigned from both roles in 2020 and 2022, respectively. From 2010 to 2012 he was also a member of the Bellagio Group, a group of academics and officials from G20 countries meeting annually to discuss major international economic and financial issues. The University of Basel awarded Mr. Jordan an honorary doctorate in 2017. He became a member of the boards of Zurich Insurance Group Ltd and Zurich Insurance Company Ltd in April 2025.
