Matthew Johnson

Matthew Johnson is a seasoned technology executive with extensive experience in the financial services and cryptocurrency sectors. Currently serving as Engineering lead at Avenue One since 2023, Matthew oversees technology strategy and product development for a property tech platform focused on single-family rental investments. Previously, as Chief Technology Officer at Genesis from 2022 to 2023, Matthew directed the technology vision for a cryptocurrency brokerage firm. Notably, Matthew played a pivotal role as the first Chief Technology Officer at Bakkt from 2019 to 2022, driving the company’s growth to a public firm. Matthew co-founded the Digital Asset Custody Company, leading product development before its acquisition by Bakkt. Earlier career highlights include senior technology roles at York Capital Management, HazelTree Fund Services, Trafelet & Company, and positions at Microsoft and BNY Mellon, with a strong emphasis on product delivery and software development within the hedge fund and asset management industries.
