Michael McWatt

Managing Director, Cayman at Butterfield

Michael McWatt was named Managing Director of Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited in May 2016, with responsibility for leading the Butterfield Group’s Cayman operations. He previously also had overall responsibility for Community Banking functions in Bermuda and Cayman. He is a career banker with more than 25 years’ experience in Canada, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, 19 of which have been with Butterfield Group. Prior to being appointed Managing Director he held the positions of EVP Deputy Managing Director in the Cayman Islands and Group Chief Credit Officer in Bermuda. Prior to joining Butterfield in 1999, Mr. McWatt held progressively senior positons in corporate banking, commercial lending and risk management for TD Bank and Scotiabank in Canada. Mr. McWatt is a graduate of the Executive Program from Ivey at Western University, holds an Honors Commerce degree from University of Windsor and a BA in Economics from McMaster University. He is a Director and Past President of the Cayman Islands Bankers’ Association and a Director of Cayman Finance.
