The department previously known as the Studies Department was set up in 1932. It is currently headed by Jorge Sicilia, Chief Economist of the BBVA Group. Its mission is to stimulate public debate and promote society’s knowledge of matters such as banking, the digital economy and geostrategy.

As a well-known and respected provider of economic research and analysis in various countries of the Americas, Europe and Asia, BBVA Research prepares reports and forecasts based on input from its team of more than 100 analysts spread over ten countries.
