Alvaro Ortiz, PhD, is a distinguished economist with extensive experience in big data analysis and economic forecasting. Currently, Ortiz serves as Co-Founder of the Financial Transactions Global Research Network (FTGRN) and a member of the Conference of Research on Income and Wealth at the National Bureau of Economic Research. As an Adjunct Professor at IE Business School, Ortiz teaches Applied Big Data in the Master of Finance program. Ortiz has held various prominent positions at BBVA Research since 2011, including Head of Big Data & AI Economic Analysis, and has overseen economic analysis as Chief Economist for multiple regions, including Turkey and China. Prior experience includes roles as Chief Economist for CEMEX in EMEA & Asia and Deputy Chief Economist at Repsol. Academic credentials include a PhD in Economics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and advanced diplomas in International Economics and Machine Learning for Economics.
