José Graña-Otero is a Senior Propulsion Engineer at Blue Origin, specializing in the design of the BE-3U ignition system since August 2022. Previously, José served as a Senior Aerothermal Engineer at Doosan ATS America LLC, focusing on transitioning to hydrogen-fueled power generation gas turbines with zero CO and CO2 emissions. As a Senior Research Associate at UC San Diego, José worked on hydrogen combustion technologies for rocket and jet engines. José also held the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Engineering, where research involved fluid dynamics and combustion processes, including heat shield models for hypersonic flight applications. Additional experience includes a visiting professorship at Yale University and a long tenure at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where José conducted R&D in aerospace thermal fluid sciences and technology. José holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in combustion at Aix-Marseille University.
