Derek Palmer has extensive work experience in the cargo and transportation industry. Derek most recently worked as the Vice President of Operations at Cargojet starting from September 2021. Prior to that, they held various roles at Air Canada, including Senior Director of Global Operations - Cargo from March 2019 to February 2021, Director of Cargo Hub Operations and Customer Service from October 2016 to March 2019, and Director of Cargo Customer Experience from October 2014 to September 2016. Before joining Air Canada, Derek worked at Purolator Inc., where they held roles such as Sr. Regional Manager of Eastern Canada Air Operations from January 2006 to October 2014 and Quality Manager of Air Operations from January 2004 to December 2005. Derek also had various roles in Operations, Quality, and Training at Purolator from April 1997 to December 2003.

Derek Palmer holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree from McMaster University, which they obtained from 1998 to 2003. In 2007, they completed a Leadership Program at the Schulich School of Business - York University. Recently, from 2019 to 2021, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Transportation and Supply Chain at the University of Denver.
