Brad Avakian

VP of Human Resources at Clark College

Brad Avakian earned his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University and his doctorate of law from Lewis & Clark University. For many years he worked as a lawyer specializing in civil rights cases. Later, he served in the Oregon House of Representatives and the Oregon Senate representing parts of northeast Washington County.

Avakian also served three terms as Oregon’s Commissioner of Labor and Industries, during which time he was a strong advocate for career and technical education programs, as well as for equity for women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Since leaving public service, Avakian has taught Politics and Public Policy for Managers in Willamette University’s MBA program and worked in private practice as a mediator and arbitrator.

Clark College

Clark College is a public community college in Washington State, serving up to 12,000 students per quarter in highly respected programs including Addiction Counselor Education, Automotive Technology, Computer Science, Culinary (Cuisine and Baking), Data Networking and Cybersecurity, Dental Hygiene, Engineering, Mechatronics, Nursing, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, and Welding, among others. In addition to our technical programs, Clark offers exceptional academic courses for students completing an associate degree. The college currently offers classes at two satellite locations, on the Washington State University Vancouver campus, and the Columbia Tech Center in East Vancouver in addition to the main campus in downtown Vancouver. Additionally, its non-credit Community and Continuing Education provides community education and job and career training classes.
