Sara Hottinger earned her Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and women’s studies from Beloit College and her Ph.D. in feminist studies from the University of Minnesota. Prior to her arrival at Coastal, she was a faculty member at Keene State College in New Hampshire, where she also served as the founding chair of the women’s and gender studies department, associate dean, and interim dean of arts and humanities. She is an interdisciplinary scholar, whose research spans the cultural studies of mathematics, feminist epistemology, and science studies. She recently published a book entitled Inventing the Mathematician: Gender, Race, and Our Cultural Understanding of Mathematics.
