Daniel Tao is an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in software development and project management. Currently serving as the Head of Engineering for Confluence Cloud at Atlassian, Daniel oversees critical aspects such as monetization, security, and performance for the product. Previously, Daniel held multiple leadership roles at Atlassian, including responsibilities for global engineering teams focused on Jira Software and Bitbucket, which serve millions of developers worldwide. In addition to this corporate experience, Daniel contributes as a Volunteer Instructor at Code2College, teaching computer science to students from underrepresented backgrounds. Daniel's career began with software engineering positions at companies like Google and Cardpool, following a Master of Science in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Duke University.

The mission of Code2College is to dramatically improve the rate of historically underserved students attending, persisting and completing STEM undergraduate degree programs and entering STEM careers. Our service delivery method is to provide a tuition-free, industry-relevant coding education to underserved HS students during the school year in preparation for a project-based, paid internship with a STEM company in the summer.
