Sophie Smith

Sophie Smith is a seasoned HR executive with extensive experience in human resource leadership across multiple regions and industries. Currently serving as Chief People Officer at Compass Group UK & Ireland since March 2025, Sophie previously held key roles including Board Member at BW Water and Chair of the Nomination Committee for multiple BW Group companies. As Chief Human Resources Officer for BW Group, a leading global maritime company, Sophie oversaw HR functions for around 12,000 employees. Sophie's experience also includes significant positions at Experian, where responsibilities encompassed HR leadership across the Asia Pacific and EMEA regions, as well as partnerships with corporate functions. Earlier career highlights include HR roles at NatWest Group and Rolls-Royce, where strategic HR initiatives were executed during times of organizational change. Sophie holds a first-class degree in Geography from Durham University and has pursued further education in coaching and HR consultancy.
