Mel Chavez-Preston

Mel Chavez-Preston currently serves as a Leader in Residence and Assistant Principal at Compass Rose Public Schools since July 2023. Prior to this role, Mel was an Assistant School Leader of Academics at KIPP Texas Public Schools - San Antonio from July 2012 to July 2023, where responsibilities included planning and conducting professional development training for teachers and providing feedback on instructional practices. Mel also held the positions of 4th Grade Founding Teacher, Grade Level Leader, and ESL Coordinator, focusing on implementing a blended classroom model and ensuring mastery in mathematics, as well as developing rigorous curriculum for English Language Learners. Additional experience includes serving as a Corps Member with Teach For America and City Year. Mel holds a Master of Education in School Leadership from Trinity University and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Teaching from St. Mary's University.
