Kate Cummings

Kate Cummings has a diverse work experience in various roles within the field of design and documentation. Kate is currently working at Confluence as a Senior Product Designer since May 2021, where they lead research sessions and ideation sessions to understand user problems and generate solutions. Prior to this, they worked as a UX Architect at Confluence from May 2019 to the present. In this role, they conducted user research, validated usability of designs, and collaborated with design and development teams. Before that, they worked as a User Experience Designer at Confluence from June 2017 to May 2019, where they conducted user research and collaborated with design and development teams.

Prior to their roles at Confluence, Kate worked as a Senior Technical Author at Confluence from January 2016 to June 2017, where they assisted UX Architects and ran usability testing of documentation content. Kate also worked as a Technical Author at Confluence from May 2014 to January 2016, where they created technical documentation and implemented single sourcing strategies.

Before joining Confluence, Kate worked as a Corporate Communications and Technical Writer at TerraSim from May 2012 to May 2014. In this role, they wrote and edited technical documentation and developed streamlined documentation processes.

Kate also has experience working as an Information Design Assistant at Carnegie Mellon University in 2011, and as a Teacher's Assistant and Tutor at Carnegie Mellon University in the same year.

Kate's early work experience includes an internship as an Information Designer & Writer at US EPA from May 2011 to August 2011, and as a Communication Specialist and Content Writer and Editor at financialfootprint from September 2010 to March 2011 and May 2010 to August 2010, respectively.

Kate Cummings obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English: Writing from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. Kate then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University from 2010 to 2011. Kate has also obtained several additional certifications, including a UX Certificate from Nielsen Norman Group in December 2022. In September 2021, they completed "The Ultimate Guide to Visual Perception and Design" course from Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF). In January 2021, they completed a course on Human-Computer Interaction - HCI from The Interaction Design Foundation. Furthermore, in August 2020, they obtained a certification in "Creativity: Methods to Design Better Products and Services" and in May 2020, they completed courses in "Information Visualization" and "UI Design Patterns for Successful Software," all from The Interaction Design Foundation.
