EDF Renewables has more than 1 GW of renewables projects in planning and development. We look after the operations and maintenance of our own wind farms. Customers need new low carbon electricity to be affordable – our innovation is driving costs down, for example our Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project which has used float and submerge technology on the foundations, 66 kV electrical connection cables and 8.3 MW turbines – all firsts in offshore wind. We are also looking at the future of onshore wind using the most modern and efficient turbines to make this technology as low cost as possible. The increase in wind and solar power poses new challenges for the grid, that’s why we have built the UK’s largest battery storage at West Burton B to help balance supply and ensure reliability for customers.
