Matthew Woolliscroft has extensive experience in the electricity market, currently serving as an EMR Business Analyst and previously as a Senior Change Analyst at ELEXON since October 2014. In these roles, Matthew is instrumental in managing changes to the Balancing and Settlement Code and collaborating with industry stakeholders. Earlier experience includes serving as a Market Entry Analyst, where Matthew provided essential market insights to potential entrants, and beginning as a Graduate in various strategic areas of the company. Prior to joining ELEXON, Matthew worked as a Retail Host at Alton Towers Resort, showcasing adaptability and teamwork skills. Matthew holds a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham, complemented by a solid educational background at St Joseph's College and Trenham High School.

Elexon plays a key role in the electricity system by managing the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC), one of 10 major codes which set out the rules so that Britain’s energy system operates effectively. Elexon compares contracts to buy and sell electricity in the wholesale market with actual volumes. We work out a price for the differences and transfer funds accordingly. We are trusted, independent, reliable market experts and we provide our services without making profits. As Britain’s energy sector continues to evolve we are working to ensure that our BSC systems can support the future needs of our customers and progress to Net Zero. This includes rolling out Elexon Kinnect, our cloud platform to deliver Settlement and all of our services, including provision of open data on the wholesale electricity market.
