Carmine Gabriele

Carmine Gabriele is a seasoned economist with extensive experience in economic policy analysis, particularly within European institutions. Currently serving as a Senior Economist at the European Stability Mechanism since May 2023, Carmine previously held the position of Policy Analyst focused on economic analysis and desk officer for Romania at the European Commission from May 2021 to May 2023. Carmine's past roles at the European Stability Mechanism included monitoring Ireland's macroeconomic conditions and participating in post-programme surveillance missions from November 2013 to May 2021. Earlier career experiences include a traineeship at the European Central Bank and internships at UNICREDIT LEASING S.P.A., Banca Aletti, and IGIER. Carmine holds a PhD in International Finance from the University of Luxembourg and a MSc in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, along with a passed Level I of the CFA Program.

ESM - European Stability Mechanism

The ESM is the crisis resolution mechanism for euro area countries. The ESM issues debt instruments in order to finance loans and other forms of financial assistance to euro area Member States. The decision leading to the creation of the ESM was taken by the European Council in December 2010. The euro area Member States signed an intergovernmental treaty establishing the ESM on 2 February 2012. The ESM was inaugurated on 8 October 2012 and is based in Luxembourg.
