Rachel Sowter

Rachel Sowter has extensive experience in risk management and auditing. Rachel is currently serving as the Head of Risk at first direct, a position they have held since 2023. Prior to this, Rachel worked at The Nottingham Building Society, where they held various roles including Head Of Risk, Senior Risk Manager Treasury & Prudential Risk, and Senior Manager Projects & Transformation risk. Rachel also gained experience at KPMG UK as a Senior Manager and Regulatory Retail Executive. Earlier in their career, Rachel worked at Coventry Building Society, Nationwide Building Society, Derbyshire Building Society, and KPMG, where they held roles in internal audit and auditing.

Rachel Sowter attended the University of Leeds from 1996 to 1999, where they earned a 2:1 (Hons) degree in Medical Science. In 2000, they enrolled in the ICAEW, completing a degree in ACA, although their field of study is not specified. Rachel later pursued further education at the Association Corporate Treasurers from 2008 to 2009, obtaining a degree in AMCT with a focus on Treasury.
