Genomics England
Christian Bouwens is a Bioinformatician at Genomics England since November 2021, leading the cancer arm of the bioinformatics consulting team and managing partnerships focused on cancer therapeutics. Previously, Christian completed a PhD in Cancer Bioinformatics at Queen Mary University of London, where research involved evaluating genomic data to understand immunotherapy efficacy in solid cancers, alongside leadership roles in the PhD Student Association. Additional experience includes consultancy work with QConsult at Queen Mary University and as a Research Analyst Assistant at Russell Reynolds Associates. Christian holds a Master's in Infection and Immunity from UCL and a Bachelor's in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Genomics England is a wholly owned company of the Department of Health set up to deliver the 100,000 Genomes Project. It was made possible by the National Institute for Health Research, NHS England, Public Health England, and Health Education England.Genomics England sequences 100,000 whole genomes from NHS patients and their families. Its fourmain aims include bringing benefit to patients, creating an ethical and transparent program based on consent, supporting new scientific discovery and medical insights, and kick-starting the development of the U.K. genomics industry.Genomics England is focusing on patients with rare diseases, and their families, as well as patients with common cancers. It was announced by Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health, as part of the NHS 65th birthday celebrations in 2013. It is based in London, England.
