Since 1931, the Gemological Institute of America has been a leading expert on jewelry. Part research institute and part school, GIA is highly respected in the gem industry. If you want to turn your interest in gems into a career, the Gemological Institute is a great place to look. One of the best features of student life at GIA Carlsbad is its location. Just 90 miles from Los Angeles and a short drive from San Diego, the school offers easy access to two of California's most exciting cities. GIA Carlsbad's academics are vocational in nature. All of its programs are geared toward a career in gemology, and include the following subjects: * Graduate Gemologist * Graduate Diamonds, Colored Stones, or Pearls * Accredited Jewelry Professional * Graduate Jeweler * Applied Jewelry Arts The main sources of financial aid at GIA Carlsbad are federal programs. These include Pell grants, SEOG, and subsidized and unsubsidized loans for eligible students. The school also offers over 30 institutional scholarships, many of which are based on merit.
