Wes Barker has worked in various roles, starting in 2007 as a Margin Specialist at Morgan Keegan & Company. In 2011, they worked as an Analyst at the United States Department of Defense. Wes then moved on to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2012, where they served as a Data Analyst until 2014. Since 2014, they have been working at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), first as a Data Scientist and currently as a Branch Chief.

Wes Barker completed their Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations and Affairs at Rhodes College from 2003 to 2007. Wes then pursued their Master of Science degree in International Political Economy at The University of Texas at Dallas from 2010 to 2012. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is the lead agency charged with formulating the federal government’s health IT strategy and coordinating federal health IT policies, standards, programs, and investments. ONC is organizationally located within the Office of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The position of National Coordinator was created in 2004, through an Executive Order, and legislatively mandated in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) of 2009.
