Ed Sopp

Ed Sopp currently serves as Deputy General Counsel at Highwoods Properties, overseeing the legal department's leasing and operations staff and managing outside legal counsel since May 2023. Previously, Ed held the role of Associate General Counsel at Poyner Spruill LLP, providing counsel on commercial real estate transactions and representing various landlords and tenants until May 2023. From 2012 to 2021, Ed worked at Highwoods Properties as Assistant General Counsel, delivering legal support across multiple internal divisions and drafting a variety of commercial agreements. Earlier experience includes serving as In House Real Estate Counsel at Pinna, Johnston & Burwell, P.A., and as a Financial Analyst at IBM, where financial forecasting and budget management were key responsibilities. Ed holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.
