Heber M Torres Cordero

Principal Investigator - Undergraduate at iGEM Competition

Heber M Torres Cordero currently serves as the Director of Educational Programs at Scintia and has held the position of Principal Investigator for the iGEM Competition while also teaching at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León since 2012. With expertise in various subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Synthetic Biology, Heber has developed training programs for young researchers and has contributed to educational initiatives both at the university and through specialized workshops. Heber's experience extends to international roles, having served as a project evaluator for the iGEM Foundation and as a Latin American Ambassador for AsEBioGen. Heber holds a PhD in Communicative and Innovative Education, a Master's degree in Molecular Medicine, and a Bachelor's degree in Genomic Biotechnology.

The iGEM Competition is an annual, world wide, synthetic biology event aimed at university, high school and graduate students. Multidisciplinary teams work all summer long to build genetically engineered systems using standard biological parts called BioBricks. iGEM teams work inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world.
