Kristen Lawson has a diverse work experience in the library field. Kristen started their career at the Allerton Public Library District in 2006 as a Children's/Reference Librarian and worked there until 2013. From 2013 to 2014, they worked at Anythink Libraries as a Children's Guide, where they provided programs for children and their families, maintained collections, and had Person in Charge responsibilities. In 2014, they joined the St. Charles Public Library as a Youth Services Librarian until 2017. During their time there, they focused on serving youth and their educational needs. In 2017, Lawson moved to the Roselle Public Library as the Youth Services Department Manager and stayed there until 2022. In this role, they managed the department's operations and programs. Currently, they are the Deputy Director at the Indian Prairie Public Library, starting in November 2022.
Kristen Lawson has a Master of Library & Information Science degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which they obtained from 2005 to 2006. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate studies at the same university, earning a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature from 2000 to 2004. In addition to their formal education, Kristen has obtained two additional certifications: "Google Sites Essential Training" from Lynda.com in October 2016 and "Foundations of Programming: Fundamentals" from Lynda.com in November 2016.
