Thomas Van Zuiden is an experienced data science professional currently serving as the Data Science & Fraud Research Lead at Interac Corp. since September 2019, where leadership is provided to a team researching financial scams in the Canadian payments sector. Prior roles at Interac include Sr. Data Scientist in Advanced Analytics Delivery, and Specialist in Advanced Analytics & Data Science, where significant contributions were made to fraud detection models. Thomas has also worked as a Modelling/Forecasting Analyst at TD Insurance, where the first text-mining fraud detection model was developed, and as a Data Manager and Statistical Analyst at York University, focusing on data extraction and site monitoring projects. A background in education includes a Master’s Degree in Biology with a focus on quantitative ecology from York University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Queen’s University.
