Sumit Bisarya

Sumit Bisarya is an experienced legal and constitutional expert with a strong background in international development and rule of law. Currently serving as the Head of Constitution Building at International IDEA since January 2022, Bisarya previously held the position of Constitutions Advisor at the United Nations from July 2020 to December 2021. Prior to that, Bisarya was the Head of Constitution Building at International IDEA from February 2013 to July 2020, overseeing global research and policy programs on constitution building. Notably, Bisarya managed field operations in various roles at the International Development Law Organization from 2005 to 2013, including Lead Legal Officer and Field Operations Legal Officer, focusing on rule of law support in several countries including Afghanistan, South Sudan, and Somalia. Sumit Bisarya holds a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Brown University.
