Arthur Erken

Regional Director - Europe And Central Asia at IOM - UN Migration

Arthur Erken is currently serving as the Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia at IOM - UN Migration since October 2024. Prior to this role, Erken held various significant positions at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) from July 2007 to October 2024, including Director of the Policy and Strategy Division, Director of the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships, and Regional Director a.i. for the Asia and Pacific Regional Office in Thailand. Erken also acted as the Representative in Vietnam and Bangladesh. Additional experience includes serving as Associate Director for Policy and Global Quality Standards at UNDP from April 2004 to June 2007 and a range of roles at UNFPA between 1993 and 2004, including Deputy Representative in Tanzania and Programme Officer. Early career experiences include positions at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Stichting Wereld & Bevolking. Erken holds a Master's degree in Cultural Anthropology and a Bachelor's degree in the same field, both from Catholic University Nijmegen (now Radboud University).
