Managing Director - Private Networks at Ipsum

Barry Grier has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Barry is currently the Managing Director - Private Networks at Ipsum, a position they started in 2022. Prior to that, Barry co-founded CarbonFix in 2021, a sustainability start-up focused on NetZero-As-A-Service for the residential/prosumer market. At CarbonFix, they led the incubation, capital raise, and creation of the business.

Barry also had an extensive career at Schneider Electric, where they held multiple senior leadership roles. Barry was the UK Projects & Commercial Director (Digital Buildings) from 2020 to 2022, overseeing a national projects business with a turnover of £50m and 170 employees. Barry also served as a member of the Schneider Electric European Works Council and held the role of Regional Director - North (Digital Energy) from 2016 to 2020.

Before joining Schneider Electric, Barry was the Application Centre Director - Power Solutions UK&I from 2014 to 2016, responsible for a software projects and lifecycle services business. Prior to that, they held the position of UK Operations Manager - Energy & Sustainability Services, leading the tendering and commercial functions within a £20M business.

Barry's career began at Lambert Engineering Ltd, where they worked as an Estimating Engineer from 2002 to 2007. In this role, they were responsible for providing proposals and estimates for a range of projects.

Throughout their career, Barry has demonstrated a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and leadership.

Barry Grier completed a Transforming Schneider Leadership program at INSEAD in 2021. Barry obtained a Professional Certificate in Management from The Open University in 2012. Barry holds a BEng (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering from Leeds Beckett University, which they completed from 2006 to 2008. Barry also earned an HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from York Technical College in 2006, and an HNC in Mechanical Engineering from the same college in 2004. Barry completed their GCSE's and A Levels at St John Fisher High School between 1995 and 2002. In addition to their formal education, Barry obtained additional certifications such as TSL 3 - Innovators Method from INSEAD Executive Education in 2021, STEM Ambassador from STEM Ambassadors in 2020, Change Maker from Utopia in 2019, and Insights Discovery from Insights in 2016.
