Frank MacMaster has an extensive work experience in the field of research and innovation. Frank currently holds the position of Vice President of Research and Innovation at IWK Health and is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Dalhousie School of Medicine. Previously, they served as a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Calgary, where they were also the Scientific Director for Provincial Addictions and Mental Health for Alberta Health Services. Prior to that, they worked as an Assistant Professor and held the Cuthbertson and Fischer Chair in Paediatric Mental Health at the University of Calgary. Frank also worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Wayne State University and as a Research Council Officer at the National Research Council Canada.

Frank MacMaster completed their Master's Degree in Neuroscience at Dalhousie University from 2000 to 2002. Frank then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neurobiology and Anatomy at Dalhousie University from 2002 to 2007. Following this, they obtained a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Neuroimaging in Child Psychiatry at Wayne State University from 2007 to 2010.
