Uzma Naz is a highly skilled Uveitis Specialist and Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with extensive experience across several prominent medical institutions. Currently serving at Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College and South City Hospital (Pvt.) Ltd. since 2024 and 2023 respectively, Uzma has notably held positions at LRBT, Mamji Hospital, and Hashmanis Hospital. Uzma began a career in ophthalmology as a Postgraduate Trainee at Patel Hospital and Liaquat National Hospital, following an academic tenure as a Senior Lecturer at DOW University of Health Sciences. Educational qualifications include a Fellowship in Uveitis and Ocular Inflammatory Diseases from the John A. Moran Eye Center, an MRCS (Ophth) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and a medical degree from Dow Medical College.
Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust - LRBT
The Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) is a charity organization which is devoted to the prevention of curable blindness and impaired vision in people who live around the poverty line. Although 80% of blindness is curable, most of it due to cataract, lack of facilities and the inability to afford the treatment/surgery expands the pool of blindness. Over the last 32 years we have been instrumental in reducing the prevalence of blindness from 1.8 % to 0.9 % of the population. However there are still 1.8 million blind people in the country and another 17.9 million have impaired vision, so there is a huge amount to do. We are now operating 19 Hospitals and 52 Community Eye Care Centres & 4 Outreach Clinics. During the year ending June’17 we treated over 2.9 million poor patients in OPD and performed over 267,000 major & minor surgeries free. LRBT is the major provider of eye care in the country treating 36% of all eye patients, performing 27.4% of eye surgeries and 32% of all Pediatric eye surgeries. We crossed the 38th Millionth patient treated milestone in February 2018 and will be reaching the 39th Millionth patient milestone by end June 2018. LRBT impacts & improves the life of more patients than any NPO in the country.
