MESA Charter High School
Trevor Baumgartner is an experienced educator with a diverse background in teaching and athletics. Since 2019, Trevor has served as a Humanities Teacher at MS 907 / Legacy Arts Middle School and has also been an English Teacher at MESA Charter High School since February 2018 and at Harlem Village Academies since September 2010. In addition to teaching English, Trevor was the first full-time Physical Education teacher at Harlem Village Academy High, where responsibilities included developing a PE curriculum for grades 9-12 and initiating the Young Men's Basketball program, achieving notable success. Earlier experience includes serving as Athletic Director at IS 296 (Halsey Middle School), where foundational teaching skills were established, and leading environmental restoration projects as a Crew Leader for EarthCorps. Trevor holds a Master of Education in Special Education from The City College of New York and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Seattle Pacific University.
MESA Charter High School
Math, Engineering, and Science Academy (MESA) Charter High School is a community high school in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We opened our doors on August 19, 2013, and we now have 465 students in grades 9-12. We graduated our first class of seniors in June 2017 and our graduation rate is 92%. Our students come from more than forty different middle schools, including public, parochial, and charter schools. Some are advanced students coming from magnet schools; others are beginning English Language Learners. What they all have in common is a desire to succeed. MESA students come to school every day, ready to work—we have a 95% attendance rate and a 97% punctuality rate, both significantly higher than other high schools in our district! When it comes to regents pass rates, MESA outperforms its peers by a rate of 20-30%!
