Formerly known as Facebook, Meta is now the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Reality Labs. Facebook was founded in 2004, initially as a community for colleges and universities. It has since grown into a global platform with features including the News Feed, Stories, Groups, Watch, Marketplace, Reels, Dating, all aimed at helping people share life's moments and discuss what's happening, nurture and build relationships, discover and connect to interests, and create economic opportunity. Instagram was acquired by Facebook in 2012. Instagram Feed, Stories, Reels, Video, Live, Shops, and messaging are places where people and creators can express themselves and push culture forward through photos, video, and private messaging, and connect with and shop from their favorite businesses. Meta has two messaging apps: Messenger and WhatApp. Messenger allows chat, audio and video calls, and Rooms, while WhatsApp is best known as a secure messaging application facilitating private communication. More recently, Meta has moved into the augmented virtual reality space with Reality Labs. Meta Quest lets people defydistance with cutting-edge VR hardware, software, and content.
