Scott McHardy

Scott McHardy is an experienced professional in risk finance and economic development, currently serving as the Head of Risk Finance and Principal Advisor at the Earthquake Commission since November 2015. Prior to this role, Scott held various managerial positions at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and worked at the Ministry of Economic Development, New Zealand, where responsibilities included advising senior government officials. Earlier experience includes serving as a Senior Analyst at the New Zealand Treasury and consulting at Marakon Associates and Rothschild Australia Asset Management. Educational credentials include an Executive Masters of Public Administration from The Australian National University, an MBA from London Business School, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from the University of Otago.

The Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tu Ake is New Zealand’s unique response to its geological environment. NHC Toka Tū Ake provides insurance cover for damage to residential property caused by earthquakes, landslips, volcanic eruptions, hydrothermal activity and tsunamis. All New Zealanders with home and/or contents insurance automatically receive NHCover. Other key functions include: Administering the Natural Disaster Fund, facilitating and supporting research to help build understanding of natural disasters and how to mitigate damage, and implementing education initiatives using school programmes, advertising and collateral.
