Matthew Kim

Matthew Kim has had a varied and impressive work experience. In 2020, they worked as a Content Writer for Off Base Productions. From 2019-2018, they worked as an Editorial Fellow for Chronicle Books, an Editorial Assistant for No Starch Press, and a Precinct Services Clerk for the City and County of San Francisco. In 2016, they were a Script Writer for Ensis Games and a Literary Agency Intern for Folio Literary Management. In 2015, they were a Research Assistant for the UC Berkeley Boalt School of Law. During their time as an Editorial Fellow, they were responsible for a variety of editorial tasks, including editing manuscripts closely and at a high level and drafting topsheets, title memos, and tipsheets. As an Editorial Assistant, they provided broad structural edits and developmental line edits on trade and technical projects, evaluated high volume of proposals, and discovered, pitched, and signed prospective authors. As a Script Writer, they created characters and story arcs as part of a small team developing a video game and wrote out most of the cut scenes and in-game dialogue. As a Precinct Services Clerk, they supported the SF Department of Elections for the June 2018 Election by canvassing neighborhoods and going door-to-door, persuading SF residents to offer their homes and businesses as polling places for the election, and providing administrative support, including database entry and management. As a Literary Agency Intern, they evaluated full-length novel submissions and nonfiction book proposals, recommending projects for and against publication, and wrote editorial letters to the authors, recommending changes in content and format. Lastly, as a Research Assistant, they collected and coded data after having read through legal dockets and documents of merger litigation.

Matthew Kim attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2013 to 2017, where they received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English and Political Science.
