Dan Shanahan has a diverse work experience in the publishing industry. Dan started their career in 2011 as a Senior Editor at Mark Allen Group. From there, they moved on to BioMed Central in 2013, where they served as a Product Manager and Associate Publisher. In 2016, they joined Springer Nature as a Publisher before becoming the Head of Product at F1000 in 2017. In 2018, they became a Product Lead at Cochrane and is currently working as the Publishing Director at Public Library of Science (PLOS) since 2020.

Dan Shanahan completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge from 2005 to 2008. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Experimental and Theoretical Physics at the same institution, studying from 2008 to 2009.
