Eric Shimp

Eric Shimp currently serves as Vice President of Global Government Relations at Principal Financial Group, a position held since July 2017, after previously holding the title of Assistant Vice President for International Government Relations. Prior experience includes working as a Policy Advisor at Alston & Bird LLP from July 2006 to July 2017, where Eric Shimp provided counsel on trade and investment issues and advised governments on foreign policy matters. Earlier roles include Director of the Strategic International Business Practice at Hunton & Williams, LLP, and Director of ASEAN and Korean Affairs at the United States Trade Representative. Eric Shimp's career began as a Foreign Service Officer at the Department of State. Academic credentials include a Master’s in International Affairs from The George Washington University and a Bachelor’s in International Relations from Drake University, supplemented by studies in German and European Community at The University of Freiburg.
